Free Virtual Legal Advice
The Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) and Statewide Legal Services of CT are offering individuals free, 30-minute virtual consultations with a Connecticut attorney to obtain legal advice in a variety of legal areas, including bankruptcy, family law, fraudulent business or debt collection, immigration law, unemployment or employee rights, and more. The consultations will be held Tuesday, April 25, and Wednesday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
ALICE Enrichment Fund Available to Stamford Families
The ALICE Enrichment Fund of the United Way of Western Connecticut is offering eligible families access to $300 per child to spend on out-of-school enrichment activities like swimming, music, art, sports and more as well as the corresponding equipment for such activities. Ferguson Library CEO Alice Knapp to be honored for literacy work
STAMFORD, March 9, 2023 – Ferguson Library CEO Alice Knapp will be honored by the Stamford Public Education Foundation April 27 with their Leadership in Literacy Award. The award recognizes community leaders who go above and beyond in their support of public education and children’s literacy.

Early Childhood Job Fair
Stamford Cradle to Career, in partnership with organizations that provide early childhood education, will host a job fair for job seekers interested in the field. Representatives from 20 early childhood organizations will be on hand to network and talk about career and education opportunities and current hiring needs. High school students interested in pursuing a career in early childhood education are also invited. Registration recommended here.

United Way Seeks Applicants for the Heart of Gold Scholarship
The Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Scholarship, named after the longstanding executive director of the Stamford Volunteer Center of United Way of Western Connecticut, is currently accepting applications for its $5,000 scholarship, awarded annually to support and promote the continuing education of an outstanding student volunteer from the Stamford community. Applications and application guidelines can be found here. All application materials are due March 22.

Take a Survey: Stamford Food Scrap Recycling
The Stamford Food Scrap Recycling Initiative, an effort to reduce the amount of garbage the city sends to landfills and incinerators by turning food scraps into compost, is asking Stamford residents to complete the attached survey to gauge public interest in the program and potentially expanding it with additional drop-off sites.

Horizons Program Admissions Nights at the Ferguson Library
Horizons at New Canaan Country School (NCCS) will be hosting admission nights Tuesday, January 24 from 4 to 6 p.m., and Wednesday, February 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lower Level Makerspace of the Ferguson Library. During the admissions evenings, staff will be on hand to screen for eligibility and to assist families in completing applications which are available online in English, Spanish and Creole.
