United Way Seeks Applicants for the Heart of Gold Scholarship

The Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Scholarship, named after the longstanding executive director of the Stamford Volunteer Center of United Way of Western Connecticut, is currently accepting applications for its $5,000 scholarship, awarded annually to support and promote the continuing education of an outstanding student volunteer from the Stamford community. Applications and application guidelines can be found here. All application materials are due March 22.

Candidates must be a high school senior who is a Stamford resident and/or attends a high school in Stamford. Each must have been active over the past two years in one or more volunteer events/projects; display outstanding participation, dedication and commitment to volunteer events/projects and volunteerism; and demonstrate leadership qualities in connection with volunteerism.

Each candidate must submit an essay describing the importance of volunteering and the benefits that the student has derived from volunteering; a resume; and at least one letter of recommendation. Additional materials that would enhance the student’s application, such as awards, certificates, photos or other items related to volunteer activities will be accepted.

After selected candidates complete their 30-minute interviews some time in April, the winners will be presented with the Heart of Gold Scholarship at the United Way of Western Connecticut Community Council meeting.
