United Way of Coastal and Western Connecticut (UWCWC) is embarking on a strategic planning process. Your insights will help shape the future of the organization, ensuring that their efforts align with the priorities and aspirations of the community. Please take a few minutes to fill out their  Community Input survey, which will remain open through January 23. 

Leading up to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the library will host special events to honor and celebrate Dr. King. All events are free.

Beginning Saturday, January 13 at 10:30 a.m., the South End Branch will host Family Craft. Participants of all ages will work together to create a scroll depicting Dr. King’s six principles of nonviolence.

Stamford’s Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) Design Team, in partnership with the Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF), will lead an in-depth leadership training class starting January for up to 25 selected parents, grandparents, guardians and other adults who wish to advocate for all children and improve the lives of families and communities.

Did you know you can borrow baking equipment, sewing machines, even a ukulele and acoustic guitar from the library? The Ferguson Library’s Makerspace also has a microscope and we’re adding a Cricut machine to our collection for those of you who enjoy DIY projects. You can check out all these items with your Ferguson Library card.

Be part of the Stamford Kindness Project, a movement created by the City of Stamford that aims to spread love, positivity and kindness in our community and beyond through considerate and selfless acts. The campaign runs through December 25.

Here are ideas to get started: Stop by any branch of the Ferguson Library to design a thank-you card for your teacher or create and post an encouraging message. Leave a bottle of water for your postal courier. Pay for someone's coffee. Compliment a colleague. Hold open an elevator door. Volunteer. The sky is the limit.

In order to expose high school students to colleges and universities that seek high-achieving candidates, 100 Black Men of Stamford (BMOS) recently hosted its annual college fair at UConn Stamford.

The Ferguson Library will host a variety of special events for all ages throughout the month of October to celebrate Halloween. For more information about the Halloween programming, click here.

As the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs & Freedom approaches, the Ferguson Library is currently displaying the exhibit, Who Can Vote? A Brief History of Voting Rights in the U.S. Made up of seven panels, the exhibit examines voting rights with an emphasis on the role of the U.S. Constitution and the interplay between the states and federal government in determining who is allowed to vote. It will remain on view through August 21.

Join us at the library July 31 for a Fearless, Fantastic & Marvelous Celebration summer celebration honoring the life and legacy of Stan Lee and 60 years of Marvel Comics. Registration is required here.

Stamford Public Schools students may receive free physical exams, immunizations and other health services at School Based Health Centers (SBHC) located at seven high and middle schools in Stamford, now also including Cloonan Middle School. Other participating schools are Stamford High School, Westhill High School, AITE/Rippowam Middle School and Turn of River Middle School. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Southwest CT chapter, is now offering free support groups to families and friends of people living with mental health challenges at the Tully Health Center in Stamford. The monthly meetings, to be held the second Tuesday of the month starting July 11, offer loved ones an understanding environment where they can share experiences and gain insight from others. All groups are led by trained facilitators and all discussions are confidential.

Our thanks to all the artists who participated in the library's Tiny Art Show. Thanks to you, the show was a huge success! But all good things must come to an end. It's time to collect the masterpieces you created that have been on display to the public. Come see us at the location where you participated and pick up your family's paintings from June 15 to July 1. We'll include a tiny easel for you to display your work at home.
