Children's Book Week Book Giveaway
Calling all kids and teens in grades pre-K to 8! Celebrate Children's Book Week with free books. Drop by any of our branches at these times and get two books for your home library, while supplies last.
The giveaway is presented in partnership with the City of Stamford, Reading is Fundamental, Stamford Public Education Foundation and Stamford Public Schools.

Horizons Program Admissions Nights at the Ferguson Library
Horizons at New Canaan Country School (NCCS) will be hosting admission nights Tuesday, January 24 from 4 to 6 p.m., and Wednesday, February 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lower Level Makerspace of the Ferguson Library. During the admissions evenings, staff will be on hand to screen for eligibility and to assist families in completing applications which are available online in English, Spanish and Creole.

Annual Stamford Literary Competition Now Open
The Stamford Literary Competition, which celebrates excellence in student writing, is now open to students who live or attend school in Stamford, and are in grades 3 to 12. Entries in original fiction, nonfiction and poetry are welcome. All entries must be submitted by February 10.

Horizons New Student Application Now Available
Horizons at New Canaan Country School, a year-round academic and enrichment program serving more than 400 Kindergarten through post-secondary students attending public schools in Stamford and Norwalk, is now accepting applications. Qualification requirements and application guidelines can be found here.

Parent Leadership Training Institute Accepting Applications
Stamford’s Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) Design Team, in partnership with the Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF), will lead an in-depth leadership training class starting January to 20 to 25 selected parents, grandparents, guardians and other adults who wish to advocate for children and improve the lives of families and communities. Candidates will be selected from a pool of diverse applicants. Apply here.

New Perk for Library Card Holders: Free Online Tutoring
Ferguson Library card holders can now receive up to five free tutoring sessions per week thanks to tutor.com. You can register for your tutor.com account with Ferguson Library here and begin attending fall student success webinars. Online tutoring hours are held from 3 to 10 p.m. daily.

Stamford Public Schools Climate Survey
Parents are invited to participate in the Stamford Public Schools (SPS) School Climate Survey. The survey is anonymous and all questions are optional. Families are asked to complete the survey for each child attending SPS. It should only take about 15 minutes to complete.

Forums to Address Long-Range Planning for Stamford School Facilities
The City of Stamford, in collaboration with Stamford Public Schools, is developing a master plan to address the current and future needs of Stamford's school campuses and facilities. As part of this process, a series of public forums will be held for community members to hear from experts about this plan. Each meeting will address specific themes; all will provide the same opening presentation and allow time for questions.
