TechXel Stamford Venture Expert Series
David Lyons, Principal, Den Corporate Advisors
Leadership & Team Building

“It’s the jockey, not the horse.” Venture investors focus on the management team in their funding and valuation decisions. Typical scored valuations attribute 30 percent to the team, so leading and building the team to manage a new venture is job one for entrepreneurs.

David Lyons has founded, and served as chairman, president, and chief executive officer for a number of private and public companies, primarily in the technology space. As principal of Den Corporate Advisors for more than 20 years, he provides counseling services to businesses from start-up to middle market concerning both their sales and marketing process and their operational structure. Having led the acquisition of more than 45 businesses, on both the buy and sale side, he guides businesses through the process of getting the best price when selling their company, and assuring the proper search is made, and fair value is paid, when pursuing strategic acquisition opportunities. He has served on multiple public and private boards, and his years practicing corporate and securities law contributes to his understanding of “how the process works.”

Lyons sits on the board of National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Southwest CT. NAMI is a nationwide non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by mental illness. He has recently started a new blog site, amitfy.com, which focuses on a lifestyle centered on mindfulness and self-care, with a business model based on selling through affiliate relationships only.
