Helena Guerrero is an internationally renowned artist, known for the shadows that invade her paintings and that apparently reflect a mystery from her past that no one has ever been able to explain. Now, after many years away, a psychological therapy called "constellation," a family wedding and an e-mail from her brother-in-law offering information about her bring her back to Madrid from Australia, where she lives. Upon arrival she also finds some boxes where her mother, before dying, has left photographs and documents that could explain the murder of her sister, Alicia, in 1969.

Together with her partner, Carlos, Helena will travel to Rabat, to La Mora, the old family home, to the wonderful garden that keeps the shadows of the past and the terrible answers to the questions that have accompanied her all her life.
