A conversation with New Yorker contributor and author Jordan Salama, who has written extensively on immigration. Salama is the author of Every Day the River Changes: Four Weeks Down the Magdalena and most recently, Stranger in the Desert.
The conversation will be moderated by Lou Chen, CEO of INTEMPO.

Author Jordan Salama is a contributor to The New Yorker, National Geographic and other publications. His essays and reportage explore themes of migration, environment and culture across the U.S. and Latin America.
Salama is the co-founder of Red House Productions, a multi-media production company and impact studio, with his brothers Jonathan and Michael. Together, they are producers of Qotzuñi: People of the Lake, a short documentary that officially qualified for the 2026 Academy Awards.
Lou Chen, the winner of the 2023 Tiger Entrepreneur Award, has worked with local communities to launch arts outreach initiatives. He comes to INTEMPO from Princeton University, where he founded Trenton Arts at Princeton, an initiative that connects the Trenton and Princeton artistic communities through student leadership and volunteer opportunities, youth programming and community performances. He has been an invited speaker and panelist alongside thought leaders such as conductor Gustavo Dudamel and Teach for America founder Wendy Kopp. Chen serves on the Princeton University Concerts Committee and the Board of Trustees for Young Audiences NJ & Eastern PA. He received his bachelor’s degree in music from Princeton University, where he was the recipient of the Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts and the A. James Fisher, Jr. Memorial Award, among other distinctions.
