Program Description

Event Details

Mary Keating, Author of Recalibrating Gravity, will discuss her memoir of life before, during, and after a spinal cord injury. With raw honesty, poetic reflection and unexpected wit, she captures what it’s like to find yourself trapped in a world not built for wheelchair users.

Recalibrating Gravity is more than a disability memoir. It’s about resilience, identity, and rewriting your own script with humor, grit, and grace when the world refuses to hand you a new one.

Registration required.

Mary Keating's world turned upside down when she became a paraplegic at 15 after a car accident, and found herself defined solely by her disability. Refusing to accept society's limiting expectations for disabled people, Keating's fun-loving nature and irrepressible spirit led her to become a lawyer, scuba diver, world traveler, poet and disability advocate. A former chairperson of the Connecticut State Rehabilitation Council, she continues to fight with humor and grace to help the billion disabled people in the world lead full and rewarding lives.
