Meet award-winning writer Dr. Tanisha C. Ford, who will discuss her book Our Secret Society: Mollie Moon and the Glamour, Money, and Power Behind the Civil Rights Movement, the definitive story of Mollie Moon, the stylish founder of the National Urban League Guild who reigned over the glittering Beaux Arts Ball, the social event of New York and Harlem society for fifty years.

Dr. Ford will be in conversation with with Shannon King, Associate Professor of History at Fairfield University.

Book sale and signing hosted by Elm Street Books will follow.

Dr. Tanisha C. Ford is a cultural critic and award-winning writer. A professor of history at The Graduate Center, CUNY, she has written for The New York Times, The Atlantic, Time, The Root, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and has been featured on NPR, among other media. In 2019, she was named to The Root’s list of the 100 Most influential African Americans.

Ford is the author of Dressed in Dreams: A Black Girl's Love Letter to the Power of Fashion, Kwame Brathwaite: Black is Beautiful  and Liberated Threads: Black Women, Style, and the Global Politics of Soul, winner of the 2016 Organization of American Historians’ Liberty Legacy Foundation Award for best book on civil rights history. She lives in Harlem.
