Shades of Truth Theatre is proud to present its latest production, The People Freedom Forgot, a play about the legacy of Juneteenth, written and directed by Michael Green.
In the play, we meet Trubone, a man of an indeterminate age who is a profound, irreverent and gifted storyteller living in a world that has never truly atoned for the sins of slavery. Trubone, a truth-teller who tells it like it is because it was what it was, joins a celebration of Juneteenth, a time for African Americans to reflect and rejoice, to reaffirm the fruits of freedom.
Michael Green, producer and director of Shades of Truth Theatre for the last 15 years, is joined on stage by Ria Alexander, Chaunice Chapman, Angel Milyon and Lee Olive Tucker.
For 20 years, Shades of Truth Theatre has been committed to the production of works that stimulate, agitate and motivate. Shades of Truth is the recipient of the 2009 AUDELCO Award, given annually for excellence in African American theater in New York City; and the 2022 SITA (Success in the Arts) Award.
Presented in partnership with Stamford NAACP and the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford.
