HHS Delivers Protections Against Surprise Medical Bills

Millions of consumers are now shielded from unexpected bills from an out-of-network provider, out-of-network facility or out-of-network air ambulance provider. Find out how here and here.

Specifically, the protections, implemented under the No Surprises Act, ban surprise billing in private insurance for most emergency care and many instances of non-emergency care, remove patients from the middle of out-of-network disputes, and require that uninsured and self-pay patients receive key overviews of anticipated costs and details about their rights. More information can be found

The protections also include the creation of a help desk should consumers find themselves in the middle of a dispute. Simply call the HHS help desk at 800 985-3059 seven days a week between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST.
