InterLibrary Loan

The Ferguson Library can order materials for you through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) if we do not own them. If the material is of a new and/or popular nature that fits into our collections, we will consider purchase. See below for link to request form.

 

To use Interlibrary Loan:

  • You need a valid library card.
  • You must be a resident of Stamford.  Connecticut  and out-of-state residents (working in Stamford) must use their home town library to place an Interlibrary loan request.
  • It takes an average of 2 to 6 weeks to get a book or magazine article.
  • It takes an average of 3 weeks to get census microfilm (consult Federal Population Census Internet site or our 2nd Floor Reference Desk)
  • It is usually a free service but you will be asked to set a fee limit should the lending library charge us.
  • ILL requests can be placed at the Information Desks at the Main Library or Harry Bennett Branch.
  • ILL request can also be taken over the phone by calling 203 351-8221, 8222,
    8231 or 8234 at Main, or 203 351-8292 at Harry Bennett.  
  • You can also request ILL online. Books and Periodicals
  • Due date is set by the lending library.
  • For renewal, call 203 351-8266 at least four days prior to due date.
  • Once notified of ILL material arrival, failure to pick up material will result in a $1.00 fine.
  • Overdue fine is 25c a day.
  • Replacement cost for lost book is $25.00 or as set by the lending library.

  • Adult Material 15¢
  • Children's Material 5¢
  • Express Books $1.00
  • Videos & DVDs $1.00
  • Juvenile & Teen Videos & DVDs $0.50
  • Adult Express DVDs  $2.00
  • Juvenile & Teen Express DVDs  $1.00
  • CD-Roms 15¢
  • Juvenile & Teen CD-Roms 5¢

Loan Periods


Book Loan Periods:

Most books may be borrowed for 3 weeks with 2 renewals.  
Except:

  • Express Books - 7 days (These are additional copies of new books that are in very high demand. Sorry, but there are no reserves or renewals on Express Books.
  • New Books - 3 weeks. One renewal if there is no one waiting for the title.  No extended loan.

 

Audio Visual and Other Non-book Materials:


Videos & DVDs

  • Adults: up to 10 DVDs and an unlimited number of videos for 4 days.
  • Minors: up to 10 DVDs and an unlimited number of videos for 4 days, provided they are rated G, PG, or PG-13, or are unrated.   Exception:  A 17-year old minor who presents acceptable proof of age may borrow R-rated DVDs and videos, subject to the limits indicated above. "Acceptable proof of age" means governmental or school documents with the holder's name, age or birth date, and a picture ID.
  • Reserves may be placed on any title in video or DVD format*.
  • DVD and  video reserves will be held at the circulation desk for 4 days.   Please give us your email address, or phone number, so we can notify you.
  • DVDs and videos can be renewed twice for 4 days if there is no one waiting.
  • No extended loan.

 

Express DVDs  

  • Adults may borrow up to 3 titles* for 1 day.
  • Minors may borrow up to 3 titles* for 1 day, provided they are rated G, PG, or PG-13, or are unrated.  Exception:  A 17-year old minor who presents acceptable proof of age may borrow R-rated DVDs and video cassettes, subject to the limits indicated above.  
  • No renewal or reserves

 

Audiobooks & CDs

  • No limit.
  • 3 weeks with 2 renewals if no holds waiting.

 

Language Kits

  • One set per person for 3 weeks. Two renewals.

 

Circulating CD-Roms

  • No limit.
  • 3 weeks with 2 renewals if no holds waiting.
  • Reserves may be placed on any title**

*Titles at the South End Branch and the Bookmobile are not available for reserves.

 

Circulating Magazines

  • No limit.
  • 1 week. No renewals.

 

Learning Kits To Go

  • One kit for 3 weeks with two renewals.

 

Please Note:

  • There are no renewals for items on request by other library users
  • All materials should be returned on or before the date they are due; other people may be waiting to use them.
  • All materials may be returned to any Ferguson Library location except: Interlibrary Loan materials and Learning Kits To Go, which must be returned to the Main Library.
  • Books (except for Interlibrary Loan items) may be returned to any public library in the state of Connecticut; however, you are responsible for the materials until they arrive back at the location from which they were borrowed.
