Literature Databases

 

The Ferguson Library has made the following databases available for the use of remote visitors. Select a database to search for articles on books and authors, literary criticism and readers advisory. 

Please have your Ferguson Library card handy to use the databases. If you do not have a Ferguson Library card, please visit your local branch to obtain one. Connecticut state residents may use their local library card number to access those databases that are marked with a blue bullet () next to them.

Academic One File - Provides articles from leading journals and reference sources. Covers the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other academic subjects.

Discovering Collection - A collection of 21 databases covering history, literature, biography, science and social studies.

Expanded Academic ASAP - From arts and the humanities to social sciences, science and technology, this database meets research needs across all academic disciplines. Access scholarly journals, magazines and newspapers - with full text and images!   

General Reference Center Gold  - Use this general interest/business database to search magazines, newspapers, and reference books for information on business, industry, current events, the arts, science, entertainment, etc.

InfoTrac Junior Edition  - Multi-source, curriculum based reference tool for junior high and middle school students.

InfoTrac Kids  - Multi-source, curriculum based reference tool for elementary school students.

InfoTrac OneFile   - Search humanities, education, business, science, current events, art, politics, economics, social science, law, health care, computers, technology, environmental issues, and general interest topics.

InfoTrac Student Edition - Multi-source, curriculum based reference tool for high school students.

JSTOR - Search in 117 journals for full text articles and images.

Literature Resource Center   - Provides access to biographies, bibliographies and critical analysis of authors from every age and literary discipline.  Literature Resource Center covers more than 90,000 novelists, poets, essayists, journalists and other writers, with in-depth coverage of 2,000 of the most-studied authors. Search by Author Name, Title, Genre, Literary Movement or Literary Themes, or combine criteria to create a highly-targeted custom search path.

Netlibrary - Search the library's ebook collection for cliff notes and full text online versions of classic stories.

NoveList - Reviews of adult and children's fiction with helpful book discussion guides.

What Do I Read Next? - Search by title, author, subject, full text, time period, geographic location, character and reading level to discover your next reading adventure.
